Filtration…
How often should I change my filter sand?
The grains of sand will round off in time and become less effective. Usually filter sand needs to be replaced every 3 to 5 years.
My filter sand isn’t very old but my filter isn’t working effectively
You can try cleaning the filter sand with an open backwash. Alternatively make sure your pool pump is running the correct number of hours.
How many hours per day should my pool pump run?
In Durban’s summer your pool should turn over twice per day. Which means all the water in your pool should pass through the filter twice per day. For example, if you have a 50Kl pool and your pool pump circulates 10Kl per hour, then it takes 5 hours for your pool to turn over. We want it to turn over twice per day, so in this example we would run the pump for 10 hours per day. During the winter months April to September we only need to turn over once per day.
How often should I backwash my sand filter?
Once per week. First disconnect the pool cleaner then remove the vacuum lid and ensure the weir basket is clean. Go to the pool pump and make sure the pump basket is clean. Now we can commence the backwash. Turn the filter valve handle to the backwash position and turn on the pump. Run for approximately one minute then turn off the pump. Move the filter valve handle to the rinse position and turn on the pump again, this time for 15 seconds. Turn off the pump again and move the filter valve handle back to the filter position. You can now replace the vacuum lid and pool cleaner and resume normal operation.
Why are grains of filter sand coming into my pool?
There are elements in the bottom of the filter to prevent sand from recirculating into the pool. It’s likely one or more of these are broken.
Why does my pool cleaner run for a few minutes then stop?
Check the pool cleaner hoses, pump lid and O ring . If the problem persists give us a ring.
